Snipes' Lawyers File New Appeal

Jailed Wesley Snipes' lawyer has filed a new appeal against the actor's three-year prison term for tax evasion, requesting officials free the star so he can fight his case in the U.S. Supreme Court.

The Blade star spent two years fighting his 2008 conviction for failing to file tax returns and recently lost an appeal and a request for a retrial.

He surrendered to authorities on 9 December and is currently incarcerated in a minimum security prison in Pennsylvania.

But his attorneys are refusing to give up the fight to free the embattled star and they filed new documents in a Florida court on Friday asking the U.S. Court of Appeals to overturn a previous ruling which denied him bail last week (ends10Dec10).

Snipes' legal team wants the judges at the Supreme Court to decide whether the actor should be granted a new trial following fresh revelations about alleged jury misconduct during his 2008 case, according to TMZ.com.

The latest allegations stem from claims made by an unnamed member of the 2008 jury, who emailed Snipes' lawyers earlier this year. The juror claimed three people on the panel had decided on their verdict before the trial had begun.
